Stone walls are winter homes

Dry laid stone wall

It might not look like much, but stone walls like this provide many little crevasses for wildlife to hole up in during the winter. Skinks, toads, salamanders, snakes and mice, shrews and voles are all small enough to den here, not to mention spiders, slugs, snails and many insects.
