We were asked by the Blogging A to Z Challenge co-hosts to post a reflection on our experience with the challenge. Staying close to our wild roots, this might sum it up:
The challenge is bright spot in our year. It’s our fourth year participating. See the new ‘Survivor’ badge atop our prior years? (on the side bar) Nutmeg had been thinking about starting a blog for a few months, saw another writer post about upcoming participation, and kicked off The Squirrel Nutwork just in time to participate in the 2012 Challenge.
We always post every day, no risk of being thrown from the tree–the list. We always pick up more followers, certainly during the blog and for the next month. We have no idea if they stick around. Squirrels are lazy about that sort of thing.
This is the first year we remembered to add the (SC) after our name in the linky thing. Perhaps that helped more folks who love nature find us, because this is certainly the first year we have had enthusiastic conversations with readers. It truly made it more fun to post, and we thank you human readers for sticking with us and our squirrelly–and sometimes nutty–thoughts. It was very fun!
We got out to meet everyone who visited us, and a few more. Can’t say we made it to visit five new blogs a day *drooping tails* but we visited more than we normally do, and we read a number of the co-hosts’ posts on the main page. This is the first year we discovered A to Z on Twitter! And that was due to a long-time follower–thanks, Sarasinart! Nice to branch out a bit.
We commend the co-hosts for visiting to welcome us, the reminder of putting up the blog banner, and the tireless job of culling the non-participants. It is a bit of a disappointment to go visit a blog and not find the challenge going on. One of our readers–thanks, darlamsands!–kept track each day of her position on the lists, so through her we know your co-hosts kept up your duties until the very end!
The only thing we might ask to A to Z hosts to do differently is to give us the option of having the same size badge as prior years…but now that we’re discussing this, Hickory seems to remember different options have been available in the past. We will go look again, because Nutmeg has a thing about all of them looking nice and neat in a line there.
In the meantime, we will get this out! (Sorry it’s more writing than us usually post!) Thank you Blogging A to Z Challenge!
