Nutmeg Hickory

A Virginia reader sent us another species of Hickory tree to show our Squirrel Nutwork readers. Without actually seeing the leaves, Miz Flora can only guess at the identification: Nutmeg Hickory, Carya myristicaeformis.

Nutmeg Hickory

It’s not native to Virginia, but the reader did said the tree was planted on the University of Mary Washington campus in Fredericksburg. And I’m quite please with the identification, since it’s made Hickory chitter and twitch his tail to discover some of HIS trees also carry my name.

Drop us a nut to find!
