American Goldfinch

Many birds are hanging around those Purple Coneflowers we featured last week.

American Goldfinch

The pointy beak of the American Goldfinch is especially good at picking out the little seeds from the ‘cone’ centers.

  1. We don’t see goldfinches very often in our yard, only when there are seeds to be had. One year I saw one on a basil plant gone to seed. But just this week I caught a glimpse of one…on a purple coneflower, just as you say!

    • Are your coneflowers new, Sharon? Maybe they just never had a reason to visit you, or are just finding you. Keep those little seeds around…I didn’t know about the basil, and neither did Miz Flora. She’s after Hickory now to stop chewing on the tips.
      Glad you dropped by!
