One of Nature’s Mysteries to Solve

Hey there, folk! It’s out day off for good behavior from the Blogging A To Z Challenge, and here’s our mystery of the day.

If you’re really missing those alphabet posts, check out some of the others at the website. The ones with a ‘GR’ after their names are gardening ones. Nutmeg forgot to add that to ours when she registered. Back with you later to solve the mystery.


Sure they’re new leaves, but did you see it’s the compound leaf of the Hickory tree? (My namesake!) I’m shamefaced to say I don’t know which. The new tree was so small, the bark is smooth, so we can’t say if it’s Shagbark or Shellbark, and both grow here in Virginia.
