This old squirrel is very excited! On top of the wet snow that immediately melted last week, we had rain the beginning of this week. Water levels are pretty good right now. And ya know why that’s important? Frog mating season is just about to begin and those guys need their ephemeral pools.
While we wait for them to begin–and yes, I checked today, no singing–here is an interesting damp area I ran across at a shallow ditch and culvert.
It took a closer look for me to figure out what the green thing is. Can you tell?
I think it’s a soil stabilizer laid down by the humans who constructed this. If so, it worked pretty good, because the dirt stayed in place long enough for grass to overgrow it. Now there’s little erosion, which makes me happy.
