Plants in Stone Cracks

After Ol’ Wally pointed out the moss in the stone crevasses a few weeks ago, Hickory and I happened upon another example of plants growing between rooks–on purpose!

The gardeners here chose to plant creeping thyme between their slate instead of putting in concrete. It smells good under our paws, but better yet, we realize from what Ol’ Wally told us that the rain water is going down into the earth for the plants, not running off the surface to drain into a stream or lake.
