What’s this tree doing?

I don’t think we’ve had a truly native post the entire week–from Hickory’s Metasequoia to Ol’ Wally’s angular fountain–so I’m going to finish out the week with another bizarre sighting: See the branches on the foreground of the photo?

Compare them to the trees in the background, which are bare of leaves (except the Japanese Maple), just this week! Yep, this cherry tree is blooming!

I talked to Miz Flora, who refused to come look at such an unnatural occurrence (unless it’s a Witch-Hazel, of course). From her mutterings, I gather she was interested enough to learn it’s an ornamental cherry that blooms in the spring and the fall. What will you humans think of next?
